It sounds to me that the only person trying to justify anything is you.
The BYU honor code is what it is. You are trying to justify evading consequences from that honor code based solely on the fact that something else bad happened to that person.

You are arguing that if you violate a contract, but something bad happens to you while you violate that contract, you should be protected from the consequences of violating that contract simply because something bad happened to you.

That is a very clear-cut example of justification.
