honor code is I don't see it as necessary and certainly not as a fundamental piece of BYU. This was all introduced to byu in the early 70s, right? So it's about 45ish years into practice. The school was every bit as safe before it and would be every bit as safe after in my opinion.
I truly believe bishops can handle a student's worthiness issues and the police can handle criminal activity. I believe BYU is special because of its 98% LDS enrollment and those kids are living values they believe in. I just don't believe byu becomes any less special without the HCO.
