First, it's beyond absurd to claim that what that post said is an admission of someone throwing beer on someone and a few drops accidentally sprinkling on someone.

Furthermore, posts like that that take something and then reference it as an admission of someone throwing beer is a prime example of what's wrong with this rivalry. Something is said, and it's completely misrepresented here and taken completely out of context so that everyone here who reads it without looking at the original post takes it as the gospel truth, that some Ute is admitting to pouring beer on someone. All it does is exacerbate bad feelings and misunderstandings.

It's also absurd to paint an entire fanbase as a certain way because of a few limited actions. I have been going to games at RES all my life and I have never seen any beer dousing. That said, I'm sure it has happened on occasions. I'm also certain that fans of every D1 school at some point have thrown beer on opposing fans, even BYU fans in LES. That obviously does not excuse the behavior, but to act like the entire U fanbase is a bunch of classless miscreants is wrong, absurd, inflammatory, and exactly what Elder Uchtdorf was talking about. Frankly, the U fanbase is probably one of the best behaved fanbases in the country and has more in common with BYU's fanbase than any other fanbase in the country.

How would you feel if Utah fans believed every BYU fan was a hotheaded jerk because there is video evidence of a fan jumping out of the stands to attack a U cheerleader running with a flag following a touchdown? Look, here, we have evidence of it, so let's extrapolate it and draw conclusions about the whole fanbase! And then you wonder why we get defensive and refute stories and claims that make it sound like RES is straight out of Lord of the Flies when those of us who are closest to the situation know it's just not accurate.
