The bottom line that people need to know is that you are more likely to have a
suicide or a homicide in your home if there is a gun there. Its a known risk. Anytime you take on a risk you have to minimize the risk. Locking up guns is one of them. Monitoring the mental health of those in the home including your own is another. If some warning flag comes up I think its important to remove guns from the home. If someone demonstrates willful neglect or known mental illness I support any legislation that takes guns from these people. I don't see the benefit of someone with a mental illness having a gun that outweighs the risk. Same with someone who leaves their guns out around minors. Not everyone should have a gun. Especially minors and people with mental illness. It needs to be treated as a public health issue.
