one of the guests on The Hilarious World of Depression mentioned something like

this - I think it was Andy Richter, but not 100% sure. But he said the only reason he didn't kill himself in high school was because there wasn't a gun in his house. Because of his depression, the effort it would have taken to attempt any other way was too much. So even though he was definitely suicidal, his depression at least saved his life in that instance.
