Had a brother who played high level in Colorado.
One kid went to Florida, two others went to Colorado, the rest to smaller schools. My brother was a D-II guy at best. He and several other end of the bench guys were there to largely ensure that the team had enough funding outside of the sponsorships so the elite guys that didn't have financial means could play for free. That's the reality for a lot of these teams. It was different calculus for him because the elite team wasn't that far away.

In my opinion, it really depends what your son is there to do. Is he going to be a starter for sure? They can't promise that, but generally you as a parent should probably know what the chances are. Also, what is your son likely to be height wise? If he's going to be under 6'4" realistically it probably makes sense to continue to get him exposure as a lead ball handler IMO, especially when considering the travel.
