Totally support this. 20 yrs working with inner city kids.
Many kids live in situations where meeting basic needs is the primary battle. A roof over the head and food on the table are the daily priorities.

Many come from environments were they have no/little support emotionally let alone academically.

It is overwhelming to see how some are just born into situations where the deck is stacked against them. I’ve watched too many young men and women give up on life by 16 and turn to drugs and crime because they see no future.

I daydream about giving these kids a chance at life in a supportive environment. Food, shelter, tutors, support. Why not give a kid with a talent at sports a chance? I suspect most wouldn’t be able to make it because the deficits are too large and the trauma is too deep, but why not give them a chance?
