The kids are more important than the program

IMO, it appears your current disdain is because you are focused on the program and not on the kids. Scouts is a flawed program for kids today. You have your calling not because of scouting but because you need to make a difference in the lives of some boys. Scouting can help you do this but it can also get in the way sometimes. Plan some fun activities that have nothing to do with scouting. Improve your relationship with the boys and do scouting when necessary.
