Appreciate your willingness to serve. I would have been glad for my boys
to have someone like you for a Scout leader.

Had, having, the same experience. Involved in Scouting for most of the past 35 years. I'm a sports guy and high adventure is not my thing. Can't tell you how many times I have gone rappelling or back packing and "endured" it. The outdoors stuff is work to me.

Woodbadge, ran Timberline course 3 years, National Scout Jamboree 2 times, ran the OA for 5 years, Scouts, Varsities, YM President, Stake and District staff more than once. Every time I turn around I get asked to do something else.

We have a scouter in our Ward who LOVES scouting. I always kid him that if he planned a camp and no boys showed up he would still go. I have had to follow him in almost all of his callings and feel like I take his great program and turn it into mediocrity. Yet they still keep asking me.

I don't HATE scouting. I see the value of it for the boys, like you do. I look back and see that I have been blessed for being willing and obedient and hope I have influenced a couple of boys along the way.

But after all of these years my personal enjoyment in the types of activities we do has never increased. In fact it may have become less. I view getting boys through a ropes course or a zip line as a chore and yet the boys LOVE it.

I agree with many here who are telling you to talk to your Bishopric. I don't know that I would ask to be released, just express your current frustrations and ask for help and advice. Perhaps their help and advice may be that you have been there long enough and need to do something else. Perhaps the advice might be something that may make your continued involvement more tolerable.

Good luck, admire your dedication and service.
