Whit's problem is he was using mostly Urban's recruits in...
...2008 sprinkled in with some JC recruits of his own and a few younger recruits of his. Now that all of Urban's recruits are entirely out of the system and they're having to rely on Kyle's recruiting you see that fortunes have fallen since 2008. They're now a shell of what they were in 2008.

Last year's 10-3 team is a lot like this year's BYU team. BYU could win their last 2 games and finish 10-3 also but it's really not a 10 win season worth crowing about (although there were a number of Yewt fans last year that crowed about winning 10 games).

I think you'll continue to see Kyle stick with his current MO and take all his best athletes away from the offense and stack them on defense. Utah will always be a top 5 defensive unit in the Pac12 but will probably lag in the bottom half of the conference offensively. It bit Utah in the butt this year when all of his most recent QB recruits were moved to other positions and he left the cupboard bare heading into the single most important season in the history of Utah football.

That has to be the biggest coaching blunder in the entire history of college football in the state of Utah. Crowton should probably send Kyle a thank you card for replacing him at the top of that list.

Obviously, the Quarterback position and the offense in general aren't high priorities for Kyle. In a conference like the Pac 12 where nearly everyone has a good QB and offense it will haunt them for years.
