WSU last won the Rose Bowl in 1916 and has played in...
...4 Rose Bowls in the past 110 yrs. Before Mike Price took over as head coach and led them to some winning seasons, the last time they'd been to the Rose Bowl was 1931. Not much of a winning legacy there. Once Mike Price moved on to greener pastures the program didn't take long to return to normal (the cellar).

A more recent example is ASU. They came in to the Pac 10 way more dominant of a program than Utah was in the MWC. ASU won something like 7 or 8 straight WAC titles and played in 5 straight Fiesta Bowls beating teams like Florida State, Nebraska, Pitt, etc.

Since joining the Pac 10 they've been to 2 Rose Bowls in 34 yrs and have totally fallen off the map of football relevancy. Utah fans keep sticking their heads deep in the sands of Denial when they say what they have is better. Utah traded going to 2 BCS Bowls in 5 yrs for something in the neighborhood of going a few times a century? Keep burying your heads yewt fans.

Utah's miniscule athletic budget was small even compared to MWC teams like New Mexico. Joining the Pac12 has just magnified that problem several times over. Now Utah is the lowest budgeted team and even when their TV money finally kicks in later this decade it only puts them in the neighborhood of WSU and the other bottom feeders. There's a reason that WSU is historically bad. Utah has several key factors in common with them. At some point Kyle, just like Mike Price did, will get an offer to a big name program and leave. Then Utah will duke it out with WSU (just like they did last Saturday) to see who gets last place.
