I waited a bit then called the director of admissions. I asked what she could have done better. He was very kind and took the time to look at her application. He said they look at three things: GPA, ACT/SAT and other. Other meaning church, seminary, extra curricular.
He said her GPA of 3.5 was the reason. I pointed out that we lived in a nice area of San Jose and the parents of my daughters classmates were engineers in high tech. All of my daughters friends were required to study every evening and all weekend long. They had no social lives. I was surprised my daughter had the grades she did with the competition she had.
She got in.
