In 2014 the NCAA passed the new 'autonomy' rules. This allowed P5 conferences to separate from G5 programs and create their own rules.
Some of these rules have a huge impact on recruiting...
Athletic Scholarships are guaranteed:
* Coaches can't pull scholarships
* If a player suffers a Carrier ending injury they still keep their 4-year scholarship
* If a player leaves school (goes to the NBA) before graduating they can come back at any time and finish their degree.
Better Insurance:
* Medical expenses for players continue after the player leaves the institution
Better Transfer rules:
* Athletes who transfer between Pac-12 schools get immediate scholarships. (they still have to sit out the 1 year NCAA rule, but they will be on scholarship)
Better 'Cost of Attendance' money:
* Schools can cover the full cost of attending school (aka.. more $$$)
