The Japanese treated Western Allies’ POWs much worse than the Germans did

But the survival rate for Soviet POWs captured by the Germans was near zero. The Japanese - not through any humanitarian scruples- at least made minimal efforts to keep alive POWs as slave labor. The Germans, especially in the first years of the war, just locked Soviet POWs in massive holding pens with no food or shelter and left them to die from starvation and exposure.
