The same reason the Nazis are considered *slightly* less evil than Mao,

Stalin etc...the systematic industrial killing of ethnicities. This is the only thing that separates the Nazis atrocities from Stalin, Lenin, Mao, Japan, and nearly everyone else in history. That’s it. Stalin and Mao clearly killed far more innocents compares to hitler, but the Nazis are unique in their industrial approach to ethnic killing.
