At one level, comparing atrocities is a farce, and

dehumanizes those who suffered. The imperial Japanese regime behaved in a despicable manner, but nothing separates them for Attila, Tammerlane, the Mongols, or even the Spanish and French during the Napoleonic Wars. The Germans were the first and only nation to systematically destroy ethnicities in an industrial manner. This separates them from all of the other criminals of history.
