Which is why many people tend to go easier on them than they deserve. That and

probably, in the US, because so many Americans have German ancestry and enjoy traveling there.

Every few months someone starts a thread on this board about how Germany gets shafted reputationally, how they actually weren’t really any worse than [Japan, or the USSR, or China, or some other villainous regime] and don’t deserve to be singled out for their evil. At least that’s how it comes across — the optics are bad, especially on a board full of conservative white people. It’s disturbing.
