Choosing Utah allows even members of the church to have the best of both worlds.
At Utah, you have a coaching staff that is supportive of missions, and a large institute on campus. You can maintain your own ties to the church, and keep the family happy.
Also at Utah, there is no honor code and the student-athlete has a lot more freedom and privacy.
Playing in the pac-12 is better than Independence or the WCC.
It is easier for a kid from Utah to pick the University of Utah over BYU than it has ever been.
