Lately, the trend has been for most of the national-level recruits to leave the state; they're not going to BYU (or usually Utah) regardless. A successful Utah increases the odds of Utah closing on these kids (which is what we're seeing this year, and is why guys like Fillinger, Carlton, and Ritchie are considering Utah). These are kids who would not be going to BYU if they didn't go to Utah (in fact, Fillinger and Carlton don't even have BYU offers, and BYU didn't even make Ritchie's top 5, so it's not like him going to Utah is hurting BYU. To the contrary, those 3 guys going to Utah just means Utah has 3 fewer scholarships to use to go after the guys who are BYU's wheelhouse.
