Good post and I think we agree more than we disagree. My point about freedom is
not based as much on what we have seen thus far (excluding lockdowns) but more about what is trending and looking forward to what could happen in the near future. For example vaccine passports and Biden’s proposal to control speech if it’s related to what the government deems misinformation like Amy Klobuchar’s bill that would make Social Media liable for COVID19 misinformation. This is very extreme and ripe for abuse.

I agree with you about comparing the same type of risk i.e hospitalization vs. hospitalization. However, we just don’t know the long term side effects so it’s preliminary to make claims that suggest minimal long term risk.

As it relates to the Polio vaccine in the 1950’s. I’m sure the people had 1000% more trust in the government than they do today. This was a post WWII government with President Eisenhower who was literally courted by both parties to be their candidate and universally loved and trusted. The country had also witnessed one of our presidents die in office with Polio only a few years before. Polio attacked children and maimed them. This was way more chilling and real to people than COVID is today. Not much convincing required.

In summary, the financial and economic price that will be paid through our Government’s economic idiocy will likely evaporate the wealth of most Americans. The level of debt is astounding. This is a very real threat and is likely to cripple our nation for generations.

I am just asking that people extend each other a little more grace when it comes to these health decisions. Taking away their agency for some greater good is a hard sell for me especially in the absence of trust and transparent debate and dialogue.
