You could have competed at a high level regardless of where you went. A QB (for example) needs a line, WRs and ideally a good defense. All this helps the team get better and get a higher profile. Would your view have changed if you thought having a great OL would help you get better scholarship opportunities?

In track and field you can compete or you can't. You can win individual championships on your own.
