probably overvaluing sunken costs.
What I mean is, just because you spent 10 years climbing the ladder in an industry you don’t like very much doesn’t mean it’s not worth starting over in another line. You can’t get the 10 years back, but you should be evaluating it only from here forward.
There are questions of perceived status as well.
I spent a decade in one thing (even taught it as an adjunct) and now have totally gone into something else for the last 2 years. It’s been great. The first thing was actually pretty great too, but this is better.
We not only let good be the thief of better, we often let tolerable be the thief of better.
Have to be responsible though. I see too many dads unwilling to do the work they have to do to take care of their families. I don’t want to encourage anyone to do that.
