It is insane the classmates I had that were taking out loans and using those to go on all sorts of trips and vacation getaways on every little break we had. Then turn around and complain about the crippling debt load they have.
I had the Army pay for my schooling. For me that was a perfect segue from school. Gave me some time doing dentistry to get comfortable, reduced my debt load and didn't require me to produce, produce, produce from day one.
For myself I am very risk averse, so I found a rural practice with low overhead and it has been amazing. Yes, we live rural, but my marketing budget is 0 and my stress level is minimal because I am providing a huge community service and just have to open the doors and I am booked and slammed all day every day.
It is not for everyone, but it is great.
