But I see little difference between the Church wanting to ensure a positive environment around Temple Square and the Church wanting to project a positive image by having BYU participate in football. I just don't see either as being so central to the mission that they warrant tithing money.
And if City Creek failed and became a burned out shell, then the Church would have no reason to be involved. And if BYU football fails and becomes a burned out shell, then the Church will have no reason to be involved and will pull out. Which is pretty much what President Worthen said, according to WiCougarman's original post.
