Yep, the process completely changed starting this year. They got rid of the
auto-accept/auto-deny process that handled 80% or so of applications previously. That's why people used to find out a lot earlier, those who were automatically accepted/denied by the system based on a composite score. But now they are supposedly reviewing every application with an actual person, and that's why everyone now finds out on the same day.

On its surface, it may not sound like a bad idea, but the one big issue I see with doing it this way is the lack of direction for kids who want to go to BYU. In the past, while there were no guarantees or magic numbers, kids knew if they had a GPA and ACT score above a certain point, and participated in some extracurriculars, seminary, etc., they had a pretty good shot of getting in. Now it's the wild west. Nobody really knows what it takes to get in. So what can a kid do to improve his chances? Nobody can really give guidance on that anymore.

Frankly, if they're going to do it this way, they might as well make it a straight lottery. Have minimum requirements and then draw names out of a hat.
