achievers for their talents/efforts.
It's idiocy.

It's why I've stopped donating money to the school.

It's why we've stopped telling our kids they should go to BYU. My wife and I have no interest in sending our kids to a school that isn't trying to demand the best. Our hope is that the admins at BYU who changed the application process will be fired and replaced before our kids apply.

Everyone shouldn't get a trophy.
