I didn't buy my house as an investment but it is great when the place you live

actually increases in value.

And yes my parents bought their house in 1969 for $39,000 and it would go for about a million today all while having a place to raise 6 kids.

So to call it "idiotic" all depends on your values.

As strictly an investment, they could have done better but I wouldn't call it idiotic by any means.

Idiotic would have been investing in cold fusion.
