The priority is a mission, something I thought BYU shared, so we didn't enroll
as we didn't WANT him going to school, we wanted him on a mission. He wanted that as well. But you are right, that, now with the benefit of hindsight, I wish we had enrolled in some class just to hold our spot (nevermind that we were moving in a pandemic at that time). This is why I shared with everyone my learning - DON'T DEFER! Enroll and hold a spot. Which I don't believe is what BYU really intends with the deferral process, as it will mess with their actual attendance vs. expected, but they force our hands.

Have him enroll at UVU and then if he feels the need after his mission he can transfer to the Y or he could get lucky
