Let's go back to Econ 101. Remember, the term "free market" is defined as:

"an economic system in which prices and wages are determined by unrestricted competition between businesses, without government regulation or fear of monopolies."

"Free markets" can not, by definition, even exist unless all trading partners are unencumbered by government regulation. Because Mexico has some of the strictest immigration laws in the entire world, there is no "free" labor market between the US and Mexico.

I understand that free market principles drive all markets (whether totally free or not), but, unless each trade partner operates under the same set of rules/regulations (or lack thereof), one or more partners will always stand to gain more from trade than others.

The debate about immigration really isn't about labor and/or labor markets, anyway. It's a gross simplification to suggest that it is. Immigration is tied to so many other issues (re: national security and sovereignty, culture, disease, crime, etc.). Immigration is one of those things that simply cannot be totally unregulated.
