at Texas Tech (not a school known for its running)and took the Houston HC job. He turned around a Houston program, then he turned Baylor into one of the top teams in a P5 conference. You can hack on the quality of High School coaches all you want, however Art Briles Baylor team would destroy a Bronco team any day of the week and Bronco has more experience coaching at the D1 level.
We actually have one of the top High School coaches in the nation in Utah and he is LDS. His track record shows he doesn't lose games he shouldn't and he gets the best out of his players. I won't be surprised if he gets a D1 offer soon or if he hasn't received one and turned it down.
I am not advocating we hire a high school coach, but to imply they can't succeed because they are high school is crazy. Nick Howell had two more years experience coaching on the college level than Briles did when he took an HC job. Nick can't run a defense worth beans with two more college years experience. With only two years college experience Briles was handed a college HC job at a similar program to BYU and took off.
