Very few coaches out there are better than Bronco. He has built a consistently good program. You know that BYU football is doing well when fans complain about 8-4 seasons. Those are good seasons. I hear comments about how BYU can't compete for national championships because of who they are, but I am puzzled by that because they have been competing. Those years with Max Hall and John Beck and even the first half of this year, BYU was doing just that. I guess it depends on what your definition is of "competing". But I think that any time you spend of portion of the year on the cusp of a top 10 ranking, you are competing. Not even Utah has been able build their program to the level that BYU's has consistently been at. Utah had those 2 BCS bowl game seasons, but what have they done the rest of the last two decades?
My only worry is that the Bronco naysayers will drive Bronco to the point that he leaves to go teach and surf somewhere and then BYU will spend the next two decades trying to find another coach as good as he was and not succeed. Be careful what you wish for.
