Which perfectly illustrates the problem. Yes they signed an agreement. Yes, BYU has the legal right to kick them out for breaching the agreement.
Fortunately, there's this thing called mercy, penitence, humility, etc. The mission of BYU is not being achieved when, in some specific cases, the Honor Code office completely disregards those things when the person is truly repentant and has a desire to change.
