I never argued that BYU housing doesn't restrict student options. Quit putting
words in my mouth. I simply stated that landlords don't have to (and have no moral obligation to) let kids out of contracts.

Landlords have mortgages, sometimes huge mortgages, that they have taken out to provide that housing. Hence contracts.
