you would make a good socialist too. Should the landlord's mortgage holder waive the mortgage payment? Should the landlord's electric company waive the electric bill coming this month?

Nope. It is called contract law and is one of the basic premises of United States law. You sign it, you live with it.

If there is a doubling of electric bills, should the Landlords be able to raise rent higher than the contract says? Nope. You sign it, landlords live with it.
