Managers often exploit the fact that people don't like to move.

Often it's not until you threaten to leave that they rein the demands back in or at least compensate you for it. IMO, this is extremely stupid to do to employees you depend heavily on. But many still do.

But the increased ability to WFH may shift this balance. Managers will likely need to be more proactive in keeping their stars happy moving forward.
