ranking is akin to clickbait rankings like Money Magazine’s “the 50 best cities in America” - a random list with random methodology. Honestly, take a look at U.S. News, where BYU engineering ranks around 100. And find me more than 3 people that say, “forget the U.S. News rankings, we all know Business Insider reflects the real commonly understood prestige of engineering programs!”
Look, I’m not saying BYU’s engineering program isn’t good or solid. It is both of those. But the claim was that it was one of the best engineering schools in the country. That’s a lot different, and the only people saying that are people from BYU.
And I’ll apologize for my snarky anecdote comment. My point was actually that, yes, using my anecdotes about companies or people I know that aren’t hot on BYU engineering grads is a stupid way to generalize the entire BYU engineering program - just like the counter anecdotes along the lines of “I work at a company / agency that loves BYU grads, therefore BYU’s engineering program must be one of the best in the country!” is equally absurd.
