But the question remains: Why does academic research matter at all for sports?
Do athletic directors consider the quality of research put out by a school before making football scheduling agreements?
Do researchers consider the quality of sports performance at a school before starting a research collaboration with people from that school?
The idea that sports and academic research are somehow related in any meaningful way is ludicrous. What am I missing?
