I'll add that different conferences value this differently
The Big10 and PAC12 put the most emphasis on it. They generally want schools to be not just Tier 1, but ideally AAU.
In the Big 10, I believe every school besides Nebraska is AAU, and they were when they were brought in.
In the PAC 12, Washington St, Oregon St and Arizona St are the only 3 that aren't AAU, and they're pulled up by still being Tier 1 Research and paired with their stronger in-state rivals who are AAU
