...most of the U of U's "research" work is in bio-fields such as medicine. But remember, BYU has schools of nursing, dentistry veterinary medicine, zoology, biology and botany as well. In fact over the last few years according to public records, BU's total research grants and funding at the post graduate level was actually more than Utah's. Research is a part of EVERY major university's post bachelor studies (master and doctoral programs. Post graduate research happens in far more than bio programs and BYU has some of the best engineering, management, business, social and applied science colleges in the country. It does NOT lack for research fund or opportunities. I can tell you that where I work FT we would be all over any BYU student with a degree in any of the major Science or Engineering Fields, CS or Management. In fact we try very hard to get BYU student's because they are most likely capable of getting cleared (Secret Clearance) and dependable.
I am not sure what the exact numbers are today, but for most of the Bronco Mendenhall era, UTAH provided 42 post bachelor degrees, BYU 40. The real delta's in all this are pretty insignificant.
