People in Academia please explain why research matters when forming athletic
conferences whose purpose I have always assumed was to play intercollegiate sports.
If research were the primary selection criterion for conference inclusion, wouldn't the P5 conferences be in hot pursuit of the Ivies to join their conferences?
I know there's a more nuanced explanation for research and conference inclusion in the esoteric academic world, but I don't understand it.
