I think the assumptions you make about the university are false. I am pretty positive that general authorities are not overseeing every honor code violation and the decisions relating to them. Nor do I believe that they are scrutinizing the fundraising efforts of those extorting loyal BYU fans.
To be clear, I think that many of the instances I mentioned (all of which are absolutely true) are quite possibly the exception rather than the rule. I don't think that BYU as an institution is evil. I am sure that most professors, students, other faculty, and fans (and so on) are probably well meaning good people. The instances I mentioned were just too much for me to swallow in my formative years, and that is what has stuck with me.
I don't like the Utes because I dislike BYU. I like the Utes because Kyle Whittingham is a family friend, and I have a lot of respect for him and his family as people.
