Time for BYU fans who believe this to be fair about the situation.
What was "supposed to be" was a hope generated by fans, not some promised thing from him. Yeah, obviously people knew he could recruit as a position coach and even coordinator. It's what they do. Head coaches don't really recruit much. Yet his influence still did a ton the minute he stepped foot on campus.
People who thought he was going to be this Poly magician were hopeful dreamers. It was never a promise. And I say promise because some CBer wrote a post about the "promises" of what Sitake would bring. No such promises exist. Only fabrications and assumptions.
One thing we can say for sure is that their eye for talent is legit. They spot kids and offer WAY before anyone else. I remember a few CBers who did the typical CB thing and criticized the Kaho offer because it was early and he had no other attention.
Recruiting is not a problem here. They need to get the roster right and the staff/responsibilities right and win games and recruiting will solve itself. But for anyone who thinks flocks of huge name Poly's will come walking through the door, they're crazy.
You're knocking not having a chance with the Sewells. Well duh. They weren't interested in Utah either. And to no fault of either program.
There's nothing BYU or the Utes can do about the state of Utah getting put on the map more and outside programs realizing the talent level is growing. There's nothing they can do about recruits seeing that and getting stars in their eyes. It's not Stanford, UW, and USC they're fighting now. It's also Bama, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, LSU, etc.
Last, you're flat out wrong about the idea that anyone is claiming BYU doesn't want big name kids. lol Of course they do. Utah wants them to. But they're simply hard to get. Utah is a P5 with proven DL production and the Tufele still left. It's hard. Most of what Utah does is with 3 star guys or even lower. It doesn't mean they don't want a Sewell or a Tufele or whoever.
You have a lot of criticisms that I doubt you could back up with explanation. BYU actually has a bunch of good recruiters. Funny you can claim they're the ones who need to get with the times, whatever that means.
