Sports don't simply "grow naturally."
Do you think boys have an inherent interest and football and girls have an inherent interest in cheerleading? I don't. I think we--and especially impressionable children--are drawn to what we see others of our sex doing. My boys play football because all they've ever seen is other boys playing football.
The way to get more girls into football is to provide them with real opportunities to participate--and just as importantly, to see other girls participating.

I remember when girls soccer wasn't sanctioned by the UHSAA. Then they followed the rules, and built ground up.
