What most articles don't say is that Sam was not the only girl playing in the Ute conference league. Kids and parents would care less if she was a girl. They played against girls all the time... and you don't say "beat the girl" to a polynesian girl unless you want to have a talk with all of her uncles.
If you are going to announce your stats (TD's, Yards.. etc) you are putting the target on your back.

I remember when girls soccer wasn't sanctioned by the UHSAA. Then they followed the rules, and built ground up.
