It's certainly lost luster; both because of the imbalance and the lack of impact
Back in the WAC/MWC days, the two teams were competing for the conference many years. From the early/mid 90s to early 2000s they were (relatively) evenly matched, and played games that mattered. Sure, each would have up years and down years, but they were on an even playing field, in the same conference and in competition. The games mattered.

Now, it's a glorified exhibition game. Utah cares more about success in their division/conference. If you go to UteHub, you'll see months go by without so much as a mention of BYU. We care a little more about it here (partly because we're Independent and don't have other things to focus on, partly because of the streak), but it's lost so much meaning.

I grew up a Utah fan before going to BYU. For the sake of both teams, I'd like the rivalry to have more meaning and that means BYU ideally getting onto the P5 level, or at least more competitive in those games. But honestly, until then, it's going to trend more towards once-great rivalries like Colorado/CSU or Utah/USU (USU actually is responsible for Utah's most recent loss in-state)
