I already stated that BYU wasn't 'top tier' (I didn't compare BYU's academic reputation to Yale or any Ivy League school) or their sports popularity to Ohio State, Michigan....

BYU is a huge draw for LDS kids, but not for everyone (BYU isn't trying to attract 'everyone'). Note: one of my non-LDS roommates came from Burma because of the touted education and another was from England (originally from Trinidade and Tobago). When I was at BYU the NY headhunter rated BYU the #3 design program in the country (down 1 spot from previous years). Interestingly, she said BYU doesn't have the most creative portfolios, but the more temperate personalities combined with talent is what was in demand.

What is the 'it program' you are now mentioning? BYU has its audience. They have good to very good academics. Their sports programs are good to very good as well (thus, their ranking for all sports programs). Does everyone pay attention to them? Nope. Just like I don't care what happens with Maryland, Texas Tech, Cal or Missouri. People

The BYU Y logo wouldn't get 'confused' with the Yale logo by sports fans.
