You are making a distinction between labeling claims from the manufacturer and what it does in the real world.
This happens all the time. Labeled for thing a, but look... the data says it does thing a like it is supposed to, but it also does thing b.

In this case the data supports that people vaccinated are less like to get the disease. Doesn't mean the the manufacturers claim of stopping severe illness and death is wrong (because that is certainly true)
