IMO, it's kind of like law school in that the school ranking matters much more
depending on what you want to do. If you want to get a job as an ordinary lawyer (like mine) it doesn't really matter. If you want to be a federal judge or a law school professor it might matter a great deal.

I know several BYU engineering grads that have great jobs and make a lot of money. I don't know what the engineering world equivalent is where you need the big name degree.

Your concern about the church is reasonable. Having said that, I know some that have gone to BYU, graduated recently, and fallen away in part because of negative influences they encountered at BYU of all places. In some respects, if you're going to choose to exercise agency to fall away, that can be found anywhere. And you can find a way to stay anywhere.

Some kids growing up do better in a Utah or Mormon Corridor environment. Some actually do worse. And the opposite is true. Some do better if they're in the minority and others don't. Of course, you know your daughter better than any of us.
