It happens at the big programs quite a bit, they often pull in

Big time recruits who expect to play and don't, so, they leave. Exploring the draft is normal for them as well.

What's concerning with BYU is guys are being told to leave then go on to do better than the guys that replaced them.

Doesn't have to be. It is that way for all NCAA sports. Unless the school offers says 4-years. Most are 1 year.
