I am not so sure that funding is “the problem” with BYU football. The idea that paying more for this or that will result in a NC team doesn’t add up to me. UT (Austin) pays the going rate for coaches, has great facilities, tradition, pride, etc. and they have been struggling for a few years now. You can’t buy anything in this world with money... Some cry that we need to fund the program more, some that the honorcode needs to go, others that acedemics are to stringent to get the best recruits. Get rid of those things are you don’t have BYU. Sorry but football is gone before those things are given.

If the church gives more money to football, then there will be some that will cry foul. The church is always criticized for the way money is distributed. From a ward/branch level all the way to the top. It is a no win scenario if the goal is to please all. Like Judas and the ointment...
